Before I describe the trips on offer this week, I will set out a few new safety rules. If anyone has suggestions for more, please let me know.
Everyone going on a trip is required to check the website, their email and text message accounts the morning of the trip before driving out to the trailhead. It is possible that because of weather or road conditions, the destination might be changed or the trip cancelled at the last minute. I will post changes on the website as soon as I am made aware of them, but may not get late changes. If any changes are made on the morning of the trip, the coordinator should contact you by phone, text or email. If a person has registered for a trip but decides not to go, that person is required to contact the coordinator before the coordinator leaves for the trailhead.
When leaving the trailhead to go home, drivers need to ensure that everyone’s car starts and if there is fresh snow, everyone is able to get out of the parking lot.
To ensure no one is stuck in a ditch overnight, everyone should tell their partner the destination and contact information of the people they are going with. If anyone lives alone, particularly if they are driving alone, that person should email or text the coordinator when they get home.

As – Mustang Hill We will start from cobble flats parking lot and head up to the rainy day summit pullout on hwy 66 as previously planned but instead of joining the Mustang Hill trail right away, we will cross Hwy 66 at the rainy day summit pullout and continue up to powderface ridge via the powderface ridge east approach, then hike along powderface ridge until the second peak, return back down to the rainy day summit pullout, then parallel hwy 66 to the rainy creek pullout as previously planned, then up the west summit of mustang hill, then the east summit of mustang hill, then down to the elbow river, and back to cobble flats. This modification will give us approx 900m+19km without going east along the elbow river on the way back. It will give us more elevation, more distance, a ridge walk and way better views will be meeting at the Cobble Flats Recreational Area parking lot and will be leaving that parking lot at 9:00am sharp. I expect this to be a 5.5 – 6 hour trip and we should be done by 2:30 – 3:00pm. We should be back home by 4:00pm. The weather next Friday is excellent, sunny with a high of +1degC. Keep in mind that location is subject to change or trip subject to cancellation depending on weather conditions until after my reminder email on Thursday afternoon. This trip is limited to 15 participants on a first come first serve basis due to covid restrictions. Registration required.
B1 and 2 -Sulphur Springs. Start: 10 am Location: Paddy’s Flats Length: 11 km
We will start at Paddy’s Flats and will follow Elbow, Sulphur Springs and then back via the Elbow Valley Trail instead of along Riverview. This will mean some uphill on the way back. Registration requried.
C – Calgary – West The “C” Group will walk the Greenway parallel with Sarcee Trail S.W. and the Strathcona Ravine. Park at Optimist Arena parking lot (5020 – 26th Avenue S.W.) or along 26th Avenue S.W. We will meet in the Arena parking lot at 10.00 am. We will cross Sarcee Trail using the pedestrian bridge and turn right on to the Greenway and continue to Bow Trail. We will then swing west and south in a loop and down to the Strathcona Ravine, through the Ravine and back to the Greenway at 17th Avenue S.W. and back to the Arena parking lot. If people wish we can then walk further around the Greenway to Battalion Park and back. Bring your poles and icers in case they are needed. Registration requried.
